Kita's Got Talent?! Rules
By taking part in Kita's Got Talent?!, you confirm that you have acknowledged and understood all of the below rules and agree to abide by them during your appearance in KGT.
Registration for KGT will open at 13:00 on May 4th, and close at 19:00 on July 12th. Participant(s) will be informed that their registration is successful/unsuccessful within 10 working days after registration closes.
General Rules
- KGT only allows solo entries and group entries up to a max of 3 individuals.
- Each participant(s) must compete with the performance they declared on their registration form, unless a change has been agreed to with explicit permission from the Kitacon organisers.
- Costumes or attire must provide enough body coverage to be worn in public and should be in good taste.
- Costumes/attire/props must not exceed two metres in any dimension — this excludes any parts that can be collapsed to a smaller size and kept collapsed when traversing through the convention building (e.g. wings and props).
- The participant(s) must be able to move freely and safely onto the stage unassisted and potentially ascend a small flight of stairs to get onto the stage. If the stairs may be an issue, please email cosplay@kitacon.org so that we see what we can do to assist and accommodate the participant(s).
- When the participant(s) are performing on stage, all other costume and prop rules apply.
- Participant(s) must have a valid Kitacon ticket to enter Kita's Got Talent?!.
- Kitacon reserve the right to intervene in the case of attire or costumes or performances with the following: insensitive or unnecessary use of makeup, profanities or sexual acts; inciting of hate or crime; and uniforms, emblems, or flags of organisations responsible for crimes against humanity.
- The use of makeup and prosthetics to depict another realistic race is prohibited. If you have any concerns about a costume or performance choice, please email cosplay@kitacon.org.
- If stilts or platforms are a part of the costume or performance, this must be declared in the application as this may potentially violate the health and safety policy. Please contact cosplay@kitacon.org for further information.
- If you require any assistance getting both on and off stage, this must be noted in the "additional information" section of the sign up form. This is so we will be aware in advance and can provide the right help on the day.
- Participant(s) must be physically signed in at the Main Stage before cut off at KGT Rehearsals at 13:30 on Sunday 11th August 2024.
- Participant(s) can also sign in at any point on the Friday 9th August and the Saturday 10th August at Cosplay HQ.
- Participant(s) must be present at both rehearsals and main show. If this is not applicable in any way, participant(s) must inform the Kitacon organisers why during registration.
- Kitacon Organisers reserve the right of final decision on any matters pertaining to KGT, including those not covered by the rules.
Performance and Costume Eligibility
- Costumes or attire and performances for KGT can be from any source, or be original content, whilst still complying with KGT Rules and the Costume & Prop Rules.
- Performances may include (but not limited to) live singing, dancing, instrumental music, skits, improv, magic, comedy, martial arts, juggling, lip-syncing etc. whilst being suited to the venue’s stage.
- KGT welcomes unique acts and performances.
- Participation is only possible online in advance of the Kitacon event, using the official KGT registration on this site.
Rehearsals
- Rehearsals are closed to attendees except for participant(s), any accompanists, and Kitacon organisers.
- All participant(s) are required to attend rehearsals, unless given explicit permission from the Kitacon organisers.
- You do not have to attend rehearsals in the attire you will be wearing for the performance, but it is recommended.
- Participant(s) agree to work closely and promptly with Kitacon organisers and the venue technical team to ensure efficient stage management and quick set-up between acts.
- Participant(s) must comply immediately with any directions or instructions given by the Kitacon organisers or venue stage manager.
- Any equipment used that is owned by a participant(s) must be approved by Kitacon organisers and venue’s technical team prior to rehearsals.
Judging
- The jury will consist of a panel of judges specifically selected by the Kitacon organisers with varied skills.
- The Kitacon organisers have the right to modify any member of the jury without prior notice.
- The decision of the jury will be final.
- Participants may not discuss their act with, or other converse with, the judging panel at any point during rehearsal or the performance itself.
- Performances will be judged on the following four categories:
- Presentation (25%)
- Creativity (25%)
- Clarity (25%)
- Ability (25%)
Performance Rules
- The participant(s) must be fully ready upon arrival for their performance, including full assembly of props and being fully changed into costume or attire.
- Performances must be between 2 minute 00 seconds and 5 minutes 00 seconds in duration. Breaching these limits will result in disqualification.
- All participant(s) must provide their own recorded music, instruments, props etc. If you are in need of guidance in this area, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing cosplay@kitacon.org.
- Any performance must not consist of any offensive language, hate speech or behaviour deemed inappropriate/vulgar.
- Confetti, glitter, projectiles, pyrotechnics and liquids are forbidden on stage.
- Baton-twirlers or similar acts using batons, machetes, knives etc. will not be accepted.
- No fire, smoke or smoke-effects will be allowed on stage at any time.
- Kitacon has the right to interrupt/cease any performances that could be a danger to the participant(s), Kitacon staff and/or audience members.
- Stage helpers or assistants (sometimes known as stage ninjas) are not allowed on stage during the performance.
- You may bring one stage assistant (so long as they are not performing with you) to help with your props or costume backstage only.
- General convention health and safety rules apply at all times.
Stage Props
- Participant(s) are allowed access to only 2 microphones maximum. Please take this into consideration for your performance.
- All stage props must be less than 15 kg, unless approved by the Kitacon organisers.
- There is a maximum of 2 props in total per participant(s).
- The largest a prop dimension may be is (W)1 metre x (L)1.5 metre x (H)1 metre unless approved by the Kitacon organisers. Weight limit still applies.
- A maximum of 2 assistants/helpers/stage ninjas (provided by Kitacon) are allowed on stage to assist with prop set-up and clear-up.
- There will be a maximum of 1 minute set up time permitted for props between acts.
- Any items/props for KGT are the sole responsibility of the participant(s) at all times.
- Kitacon is not responsible for theft/damage to any of the participant(s) items or injury of any kind to participant(s) during, before or after the performance.
Audio Submission
- All files must be submitted via the appropriate methods provided by Kitacon.
- Any files sent without request from the Kitacon organisers will not be accepted.
- The deadline for submissions is Sunday 28th July at 12:00.
- Audio length must be longer than roughly 2 minutes and 00 seconds.
- Audio length must not exceed 5 minutes and 00 seconds.
- Audio files must be in MP3 (.mp3) format.
- Files must be clearly named with the prefix of "INITIALS_KGT_FILENAME", such as "KC_KGT_PERFORMANCE.mp3”.
Prizes
- Kita's Got Talent?! will award prizes for both 1st Place and a single Runner-Up.
- Prizes will be announced by Kitacon organisers closer to the date.
- Prizes may be altered by the Kitacon organisers without prior notice.
Disqualification
- Failure to comply with these rules may result in disqualification of the participant(s).
- Failure to comply with Kitacon organisers or venue staff during the event may result to the disqualification of the participant(s).
- Kitacon have the right to disqualify any participant(s) at their own discretion.
- Every participant(s) guilty of vandalism, theft, acts of aggression against either towards Kitacon organisers, staff, venue staff or attendees (physical or verbal), or any other behaviour deemed inappropriate before, during or after the event, will be instantly and permanently disqualified.
- All illegal behaviour will be pursued and prosecuted to the full extent of the laws.
Limitations of Liability
- Kitacon is not responsible for:
- Technical faults or failures of any kind, including but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions or disconnections in network hardware or software.
- Unauthorised human intervention in any part of the application process or the Kita's Got Talent?! event.
